Fantasy Film Making Part 1

The Betrayal

In the lesson, each group was told to pick a piece of paper from each category, and my group picked out the production company of Brasso Films + Partners, the budget of £0 and a scenario of: "A rough drama about a young African immigrant growing up in London's gang culture."

The Story

A young boy comes from Africa for a better life, but it isn't as he expected. Shortly after he arrives he finds out where his uncle lives. A little while after moving into his uncle's house, his uncle starts to abuse him which drives him to leave, and with nowhere else to stay, live on the streets.

He starts shoplifting so that he can survive, a local gang witness his shoplifting and decide that the could have him in their gang. To initiate him into the gang, the gang members challenge the boy to stab someone. With the amount of peer pressure building up, he agrees to stab a person. A month after the stabbing, the gang set up a robbery, where the young African immigrant is betrayed by the gang.

Location/Setting

The first location that will be used in the film is in Amandip's garage. This will be used as the bedroom in the uncle's house. Only the garage will be seen as part of the uncle's house, this is to give the viewer a feel of what the rest of the house could be.
The second location will be Nisa Local/Grove. This will be used to stage the shoplifting scene where gang confronts him. This is a shop which is owned by a friend's dad.
The third location will be Goodmayes Park. This will be used for the scene where the stabbing takes place.
The fourth location will be my house. This is where the robbery is going to take place.
The fifth location will be at the end of my road. This is just after the gang betray the young boy, and where he is caught by a police officer.
The total costs for sets and locations are £0.

One member of the gang that approaches David is called Sean. He is the leader of the gang. He will be played by a friend called Orlstyne.
Another member of the gang is called Paul. He will be played by a friend called Dilip.
The police officer that arrests David is called Pc Phillipson. He will be played by Mr Phillipson.

The total costs for the actors are £0.

Music

The theme music for the opening sequence of the film are African drums. The artists of this are me and Amandip.
When David arrives at his uncle's house African drums will also be played. The artists of this are myself and Amandip.
A competition will be held for 3 other pieces of music which will be involved in the film. One piece of the music held when the gang approach David outside the shop and another when the robbery is taking place. The last piece of music will be played when David gets arrested, but sirens will also be used in the background. The artists of these pieces of music will be the competition winners.

The total costs for music are £0

Budget

The budget for the film is £0
The total cost for sets and locations are £0
The total costs for actors are £0
The total costs for music is £0
The remaining budget is £0

How the film shows Britishness

Overall I think that my film will show Britishness showing the UK Teen gang crime and showing what impact it has on a persons life, along with all the consequences of being in a gang, all the actors in the film are from Britain so this would also show Britishness

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

Introduction

The two films I will be talking about are: Kill Bill: Vol. 2 and Scarface.

Kill Bill: Vol. 2 Is by miramax films, which is and independent film company. This movie is directed by the great Quentin Tarantino, In the early 1990's he was an independent film maker whos films used nonlinear storylines. His films include: Reservoir Dogs, Deathproof, Kill Bill vol.1 and many more, I will be looking at Kill Bill: Vol. 2 which is the sequel to Kill Bill Vol.1. Scarface is a Hollywood movie directed by Brian De Palma, the production company for this movie is Universal Studios. Universal studios is one of the six major films companies in the world.

Actors/Characters

In both of these movies, the characters have been picked out very well, according to the storylines. In KillBill "the bride" is played by the successful actor Uma Thurman. In Kill Bill Vol.2 "the bride" is back with a vengeance and taking aim at "Budd", "Elle Driver" then leads up to the ultimate confrontation with "Bill". In Scarface Al Pacino stars as the unforgettable Tony Montana, One of the ruthless gangsters ever depicted on film. Scarface follows the violent career of a smalltime cuban refugee who shoots his way to the top of Miamis cocaine empire.

Sound

In KillBill Vol.2 The music in that is 90% dramatic as there are many action/violent scenes which the music goes well to. When "the bride" kills "Bill" the music suddenly changes to a calmer, more relaxing type of music, this is showing that there has become a huge mood change in "the brides" character. In Scarface the music is very bold, when "Tony Montana" walks in to that specific room, this music is showing that he has become something big. Also when his friend gets cut up by the chainsaw the music became very tense.

Camerawork

In Kill Bill Vol.2 the camera work is quite complicated for example, near the begining of the movie "Elle Driver" is driving her car to "Budds" house. As she is on her way to his house there are many shots which have been taken from above, this must have required at lot of budgeting in order to get a such a height. In Scarface the camerawork is very simple, for example where "Tony Montana" was being held at the police station there is no need for any complex camerawork.

Mise-En-Scene

In Scarface the location is just simply Miami and Los Angeles. In Kill Bill Vol. 2 the graveyard scene was filmed in Barstow California and 60% of the film was also filmed in California, the desert scene was filmed in a desert in Mexico.

Conclusion

I conclude this essay by saying that both these movies had similar genres e.g revenge, violence. Scarface had the biggest budget, as it is a Hollywood movie. Kill Bill Vol.2 was not far off from Scarface's budget, I feel that both movies had put their budgets to good use and feel that they were not wasted in anyway. I think that the better movie out of the two had to be Scarface, this is because I was so interested in the storyline, as Kill Bill Vol.2 was just about a woman seeking revenge on various people and I felt that there was not point of that movie.
